The Importance of Your Front Entrance in Feng Shui

THE MOUTH OF CHI”

The location of the hallway as part of the entrance to the home will bring the type of energy from that direction and should be enhanced as necessary per the element in that sector.

Chi comes into the house through the walls, doors, windows and roof. But the Front Door is said to be the “mouth” of the house so you need to let good chi come in! Once inside it flows through the house so you need to keep all hallways clutterfree. These suggestions will work for a home or an apartment.

WU FU LIN MEN

“May the five blessings approach the door” - the blessings being health, wealth, longevity, an auspicious life and natural death.

The gateway to the rest of the home

Power to influence the feng shui in the rest of the home

Must be clutter free, bright & uplifting

Bright lights inside and outside the door attract good chi. Leave them on at least from dusk to bedtime.

Front door should be solid, or with a small pane of glass. A lot of glass will let energy leak out.

Two potted plants (one one each side) will deflect any poison arrows. Check to see that plants are suitable for this bagua sector. Shiny metal objects (door knockers or kick plates-also deflect bad chi)

Steps leading up to your door is very good.

An ornament of a picture of a dog facing the door (from inside) offers protection

On the left side of hallway (facing door) put a flowing water symbol (artwork, picture, boat, abstract blue painting)

Mirrors can widen the hallway (but do not place directly opposite door)

If front door is in direct line to back door Chi will rush right through the home slow down the Chi flow with a round-leaf plant or furniture against the wall encouraging the Chi to meander or place a wind chime over the door to slow it down.

Your stairs should be solid with treads (close them if they are not)

Choose a rug that supports the direction and the element -rugs slow down chi.

No clutter including shoes and slippers

Location of Hallway

North

A North hallway can make you feel isolated. Remedy this by boosting chi in the south. Wood symbols (like plants) would be beneficial in the North

Northeast

The Chi in a northeast hallway can cause frustration. Use earthy colours and strong lighting. Crystal, shiny metal ornaments and vases help

East, Southeast, South

Perfect for front doors and hallways. This chi promotes growth, ambition and success. Boost energy with wood floors and plants.

Southwest

Gives your home the feeling of sanctuary, but the energy is a big sluggish. Use fiery colours, strong lighting and crystals or shiny metal ornaments.

West, Northwest

This promotes creativity. The chi helps with determination, parental authority and the removal of obstacles. Metal ornaments enhance this energy. A welcoming entrance for good chi is a crucial step in ensuring a balanced and harmonious home!
